SUPPORT RESEARCH AND EDUCATION IN NEUROENDOCRINE
AND PITUITARY DISORDERS
The MGH Research Program and the Neuroendocrine
Clinical Center
The Neuroendocrine Clinical Center is an internationally
recognized multidisciplinary referral center for the diagnosis,
evaluation and treatment of both pituitary tumors and disorders
of the hypothalamic-pituitary region. The Center closely
coordinates all aspects of care and offers the ready availability
of endocrinologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiation
oncologists and psychiatrists as necessary. The Neuroendocrine
Clinical Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital is
unique in the number of talented scientists who have the
opportunity to work in direct contact with clinicians in
a leading medical center. The MGH Neuroendocrine Clinical
Center is renowned for treatment of disorders affecting
the endocrine function of the hypothalamus and pituitary
gland and has one of the largest research programs in this
area in the world. Areas of special expertise include:
- Pituitary Tumors, Prolactin Disorders,
- Cushing's Syndrome
- Acromegaly
- Neuroendocrine Effects of Radiation Therapy
- Hypopituitarism and Hormone Replacement
- Effects of Ptuitary Diorders on Oteoporosis Risk, and
- The Diagnosis and Treatment of GH deficiency.
How Can You Support Neuroendocrine and
Pituitary Research?
The goal of MGH Neuroendocrine Clinical Center
is to develop and implement innovative therapies that will
benefit people with neuroendocrine and pituitary disorders.
The unique multi-disciplinary structure of the MGH Neuroendocrine
Clinical Center has helped make our center a recognized
leader in this field since it's inception in 1985. Our work
enables innovative approaches and treatment to come from
investigators directly into clinical care. Our research
funding comes almost entirely from NIH, foundation grants,
and Industrial support. This support is targeted for specific
projects, without funds for new innovative pilot studies
or educational programs. Flexible funds to foster new ideas
are critically needed. Many exciting research findings in
the laboratory can lead to the development of new therapies.
Your support can make a critical difference in the development
of such therapies.
